The Singapore Environment Council (SEC), administrator of the Singapore Green Labelling Scheme (SGLS), has partnered with Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) to advance regional cooperation in ecolabelling through the establishment of Common Criteria across key product categories.

Signed on 14 October 2024, these agreements build on the broader Mutual Recognition framework between the two schemes and reflect a shared commitment to aligning environmental standards and supporting the growth of sustainable products across markets.

SEC and GECA established Common Criteria for Cement and Concrete Products, aligning key requirements in areas such as product performance, environmental and quality management systems, raw material handling, and waste management. This helps streamline certification processes and reduces duplication for companies seeking ecolabels in both Singapore and Australia.

In addition, both organisations agreed on Common Criteria for Paints and Coatings, focusing on environmental and health considerations including restrictions on hazardous substances such as formaldehyde, heavy metals, and halogenated compounds, as well as performance-related attributes like thermal reflective properties.

Together, these agreements support clearer pathways for cross-certification and promote higher sustainability standards across the construction and coatings sectors.
