Scope of certification
This standard covers solar-powered consumer products including watches, clocks, calculators, scales, titrating devices, toys, solar construction kits, and torches powered by solar energy using a rechargeable electrochemical storage system.
Key requirements
- Environmental management system in place (ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 or equivalent)
- No cadmium in batteries above defined limits; no organic halogenated compounds in built-in capacitors
- No carcinogens or mutagens; no chloroparaffins in printed circuit board carrier materials
- Constructional design must preclude use of replaceable batteries — solar powered only
