This standard establishes criteria for biodegradable products, including prerequisites on reduced toxicity and prohibition of environmentally harmful substances.
Key requirements
- Environmental management system in place (ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 or equivalent)
- No carcinogens, mutagens or reproductive toxins; no heavy metals above defined limits
- Verified biodegradability to relevant international standards; no ecotoxicity in biodegradation end products
- No persistent organic pollutants above defined limits
